RAHIM YAR KHAN: A man has been booked by the city police allegedly for repeatedly raping a woman, leaving her pregnant, after promising to marry her.

The woman, a resident of Madina Town, Chak 111-P East, in the first information report (FIR) No 717/25 registered by city police under sections 376 of the Pakistan Penal Code said she was living with her elderly mother in Madina Town and employed in a private bank.

She said the suspect, ‘A’, a resident of Jinnah Park, who used to visit her house, promised to marry her.

She alleged that during his visits he repeatedly raped her, leaving her pregnant.

She alleged that on May 25, ‘A’, who was a drug (ice) addict again raped her and on knowing about her pregnancy asked her to go for abortion.

She said that when she refused abortion and reminded the suspect of his promise to marry her, he subjected her to torture, inflicting injuries on her face.

She said as she started crying, two men (witnesses) Azhar Hussain and Mubashir, both residents of Chak 78-P, rescued her from the suspect.

She said that later the suspect requested her no to report the matter to police, and again promised to marry her after consulting elders of his clan, but did not keep his words. She sought legal action against the suspect, saying he destroyed her life.

A district police spokesperson said that the suspect has been granted bail till June 14 by a court, while the police have got the complainant medically examined.

He further said that the police have sent the victim’s initial medical report to the Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA) in Lahore, where the suspect will also appear for a DNA test.

He said further action will be taken against the suspect in the light of the DNA test results.

Official sources say the victim will also have to lodge a complaint with the Women Anti-Harassment Cell established at the deputy commissioner’s office.
