ISALMABAD: As work on a mega project to convert CDA’s old nursery into ‘Gardenia Hub’ continues, the civic body has stated that there will be improvement in the horticulture sector once the project is completed.

CDA Chairman Mohammad Ali Randhawa paid a visit to the CDA nurserylocated on Park Road. Members environment, administration, engineering and finance accompanied him during the visit,” says a press release.

Mr Randhawa said the primary objective of upgrading the CDA nursery was to establish Islamabad as a significant hub in the horticulture sector. He also directed that the construction of modern and beautiful flower shops should be completed swiftly.

“This will not only enhance the city’s beauty but also create an attractive recreational spot for citizens. The CDA chairman instructed that unique, state-of-the-art controlled ventilated greenhouses be constructed within the nursery. These will provide an ideal environment for plant growth and also support research and development,” the press release added.

Mr Randhawa also directed the establishment of a tissue culture laboratory at the site.

“This facility will enable the propagation of new plant varieties using advanced techniques,” he said, adding that a dedicated space should be allocated within the nursery for displaying a variety of colourful flowers, where beautiful seasonal and off-season species can be showcased for the public.

“Developing the nursery as the ‘Gardenia Hub’ is a crucial step towards making Islamabad an even more beautiful and lush green capital,” read the press release.

The CDA chief emphasised that this project will not only enhance the city’s aesthetics but will also create new employment opportunities in the horticulture sector, adding that the project is a vital part of CDA’s efforts to provide citizens with a clean and green environment.
