KARACHI: In a move to curb water theft, the board of directors of Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) has approved a proposal to request legislative amendments that will grant the corporation legal authority to seize properties of those involved in water theft.

The decision was made during the 10th board meeting of KWSC, chaired by Karachi Mayor and board chairman Barrister Murtaza Wahab.

Senior officials, including Karachi commissioner Syed Hasan Naqvi, CEO Ahmed Ali Siddiqui, COO Engr. Asadullah Khan, and board members Dr Sarosh Lodhi, Abdul Kabir Qazi, Tanzil Pirzada, and Zafar Sobani also attended the meeting.

A statement issued by the KWSC said that the board agreed to formally request the Sindh government to revise relevant laws, allowing the KWSC to take stringent action against water thieves.

“The proposal includes provisions to empower the corporation to confiscate properties linked to illegal water connections and theft, a long-standing issue affecting equitable distribution of water in Karachi,” said the statement.
