LAHORE: An elderly woman was allegedly shot dead by unidentified motorcyclists in Chuhng area here on Wednesday.
The woman was identified as Bushra Bibi and the police shifted her body to the city morgue for autopsy.
The sources claimed that the woman was mother of a murder suspect, Nazim.
They said Nazim had allegedly murdered Mubashar Khokhar, the brother of MPA Malik Asad Khokhar, in August 2021 in a wedding ceremony of Malik Asad’s son in Phase-VII of DHA, Lahore.
They said the murder had come to a limelight, making headlines in national media as then Punjab chief minister Usman Buzdar was present at the same event.
The prime suspect (Nazim) was reportedly arrested red-handed when the security officials overpowered him.
Later, it transpired that Nazim used to be an employee (bodyguard) of the Khokhar family and had served them for many years.
Nazim had told the police interrogators that he had killed Mubhashar to avenge murder of his brother. He had alleged that Mubashar Khokhar was behind the killing of his brother.
The sources further claimed that Nazim had died under mysterious circumstances in the jail around a year ago.
They said the police high-ups were investigating the murder of his mother on multiple lines, including the murder of Malik Mubashar Khokhar.
However, a senior police officer claimed they had managed to trace the vehicle which was used in the murder of Bushra Bibi that revealed the killers might belong to the family of the slain woman.
Further investigations were underway, he said.
CLASH: Three persons were allegedly shot at and injured in an armed clash between two groups in Shafiqabad area here on Wednesday.
The witnesses said the massive firing between the two groups created panic in the area as a video clip showed many people rushing for shelter.
According to the footage, the armed men were seen firing directly on each other, risking lives of passersby.
During cross firing, the bullets hit three persons who were immediately shifted to the local hospitals where condition of one of them was said to be serious.
The police lodged a case and launched investigations.
