Wins for Conquerors, Stars in National Women’s T20

KARACHI: Skipper Fatima Sana struck a belligerent 88 to lead Conquerors to a comfortable 28-run victory over Challengers in their match of the National Women’s T20 tournament here at the National Bank Stadium on Saturday.

Fatima, who came in to bat at number five with 45 runs on the board, struck 14 fours and three sixes in her 49-ball knock as she added 111 runs with Najiha Alvi (25 not out off 25 balls) for the fourth wicket.

After electing to bat first, Conquerors posted 165 for five off the allotted overs.

For Challengers, Rameen Shamim claimed two wickets for 19 while Zaib-un-Nisa and Quratulain dismissed one batter each.

Challengers in their pursuit could post 137-7 in the stipulated overs giving Conquerors their second win of the event.

Batting at number three, Aliya Riaz top-scored with 36 off 34 balls hitting three fours and two sixes. Opener Sadaf Shamas (30 off 30, five fours, one six) also batted well.

As Challengers crumbled to 80-4, skipper Rameen (27 not out off 15, three fours, one six) and Gull Rukh (17 off 12) waged a fightback but it was not enough as they fell 28 runs short in the end. For Conquerors, Mahnoor Aftab picked up two wickets for nine runs in three overs.

Fatima was named player-of-the-match.

Meanwhile, skipper Sidra Amin struck a 44-ball 59 as Stars thumped Invincibles by 69 runs at the Oval Academy Ground.

After the departure of opening batter Samiya Afsar (18 off 12) with 28 runs on the board, number three batter Sidra partnered with Sana Urooj (45 off 41, four fours, two sixes) for a 75-run stand. Sidra during her innings struck seven fours and a six.

Huraina Sajjad (18 off 10, three fours) and Tuba Hassan (17 off 14) made valuable contributions with the bat as Stars posted a solid 172-5 in their 20 overs after electing to bat first.

For Invincibles, Omaima Sohail dismissed two batters for 27 runs.

Waheeda Akhtar registered brilliant figures of 4-1-16-4 while Anosha Nasir and Tuba Hassan dismissed two batters each as Stars restricted Invincibles to 103-9 in 20 overs.

Conquerors beat Challengers by 28 runs at the National Bank Stadium.

No batters except captain Muneeba Ali (40 off 28, seven fours) and Omaima (30 off 29, four fours) entered double figures for Invincibles, who have now lost three matches on the trot.
