ISLAMABAD: A man shot dead a girl student of a university at a private hostel, police said on Monday.

The deceased was 23-year-old and a student of the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) and was residing in the hostel in G-10/1.

The Ramna police have registered a murder case against the killer in response to a complaint lodged by the deceased’s brother.

The police said that the man armed with a pistol entered the hostel by jumping a wall and stayed in the courtyard for an hour. Later, the student came in the courtyard, but returned after seeing the man there.

The man followed her and also forced his way into the room. He pulled out a pistol and asked three other girls present in the room to be quiet.

Shortly, he opened fire at the student, and as a result, she sustained bullet injuries. Later, the man escaped after jumping the wall.

The injured student was shifted to the hospital, where she died.

Meanwhile, the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) expressed its sorrow over the tragic death of the student.

APP, quoting a press release, said the university expressed its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family during this painful time.

The press release said it was important to clarify that the unfortunate incident did not occur within the university premises or its hostels.

Contrary to certain media reports, the incident took place at a private hostel.

“IIUI leadership has expressed profound grief over the loss of a young and promising student, and the entire university community mourns this irreparable loss.”
