TOBA TEK SINGH: One of the four arrested people in an alleged gang-rape of a woman sweeper from the University of Agriculture’s hostel on March 25 night was killed on Wednesday during an alleged encounter with Sandal Bar police.

A Faisalabad City police spokesperson said the suspect, who was on physical remand, was being shifted to the police station when near the canal bridge outside Chak 62-JB, Chanankay, four outlaws opened fire and “managed to snatch the suspect from the police”.

During the chase, an exchange of fire took place and “when the firing stopped, the police found the suspect injured while the attackers had escaped”. He was shifted to Allied Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

ACCIDENT: A man riding a cycle was killed under a wheat harvester in Pirmahal on Wednesday.

Police said Mukhtar Ahmad, 50, was riding the cycle and when he was near the Fesco Grid Station on Pirmahal-Multan Road, a wheat harvester ran over and killed him.

In another incident,a motorway police inspector was killed in an accident near Aminpur Interchange on Motorway M-4, Faisalabad, on Wednesday morning.

Motorway police said Mansoor Asghar was in a patrolling car when a mini truck coming from Faisalabad side rammed the car from the rear. Mansoor died instantly.

The truck driver was arrested.

CLASH: A man was murdered and his nephew injured during a clash between two groups in Chak 328 JB, Toba Tek Singh, on Wednesday.

Police said members of one group opened fire after an exchange of words, in which Ghulam Murtaza Randhawa and his nephew Wajid Ali Warraich were injured. Both were shifted to DHQ Hospital, where Murtaza succumbed to his injuries.

City police were conducting raids to arrest the suspects.

GCUF: Government College University Faisalabad organised a Gaza Solidarity March on Wednesday to denounce the atrocities against Palestinians and to express unity with the people of Gaza.

Vice Chancellor Dr Rauf-i-Azam led the march along with Pro VC Dr Nasir Amin, deans, directors, faculty members, and a large number of students. Addressing the participants, Dr Rauf urged the international community, including the United Nations, to take immediate steps for a ceasefire.

Director Student Affairs Dr Shiraz Arshad Malik said Gaza was facing a humanitarian catastrophe and called for an end to the genocide of children and women. He said the protest aimed to honour the resilience of Palestinians and awaken the conscience of Muslim rulers.

Participants carried placards and banners with pro-Palestine slogans and anti-Israel messages.

CASE TRACED: Chak Jhumra and Sahianwala police have solved the murder of a man by arresting his wife and her two accomplices.

Madina Town SP Saad Arshad told a press conference on Wednesday that Imran Sajid of Chak 131 RB was shot dead by unidentified assailants on March 26. During the investigation, police arrested his wife, Rabia Basri, on suspicion.

She confessed to having an affair with Shahzad and admitted they planned the murder together.

On her insistence, Shahzad and his accomplice Khalil attacked and shot Imran dead.
