KARACHI: Acting Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court (SHC) Mohammad Junaid Ghaffar on Wednesday inaugurated a legal research centre.

The centre has been established in the main building of the SHC to provide research support to its judges.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that former SHC chief justice Mohammad Shafi Siddiqui had played an important role in setting up the centre and that civil judges would provide their services at the facility.

Initially, nine civil judges will be assigned to work at the centre due to shortage of judges and a search officer to be provided to each bench of the SHC on a permanent basis in the future, he added.

CJ Ghaffar also said that the civil judges, working at the research cell, will also be benefited, as this research work would be helpful for them for their professorial careers.

Referring to the recent amendment to the pecuniary jurisdiction of the SHC, he stated that around 24,000 civil cases were being transferred from the high court to the district judiciary and since it was a gigantic task, Justice Adnan Iqbal Chaudhary was monitoring it.

The other judges of SHC and representatives of bar associations also attended the event.
