KARACHI: Two suspected robbers were gunned down by an off-duty policeman in Scheme-33 on Saturday evening.

The Sachal police said that two armed suspects, who were riding a motorcycle, entered a restaurant in Ghazi Goth and started looting the customers. After snatching valuables from the people, the muggers were fleeing but Haider, a policeman who was in civvies, challenged them. An exchange of gunfire took place, as a result of which both the suspects were killed on the spot.

The police claimed to have recovered two illegal pistols along with ammunition and one motorcycle from their custody.

The bodies were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities. Their identity could not be ascertained till late in the night.

Robbers who killed citizen in DHA held

Two suspected muggers, who had recently killed a citizen in the presence of his teenage son, were arrested in wounded condition after an “encounter” in the DHA early on Saturday morning, police said.

South-DIG Syed Asad Raza said that after an exchange of firing, the suspects, Syed Asif Ali and Habib Umar, were apprehended in wounded condition. They were involved in the recent murder of a citizen, Amir Sultan, near Tooba Masjid. Their third accomplice, identified as Qasim alias Muna, was still at large, the officer added.

DIG Raza said the police had detected the robbery-cum-murder case on technical grounds. The assistance of Pakistan Rangers also remained pivotal to detection of the case.
