PESHAWAR: Two officials of the Counter-Terrorism Department were martyred in an attack near Tanda Dam in Kohat district on Monday, the police said.

They said CTD personnel, assistant sub-inspector Mustafa and head constable Zahid, were on their way to Kohat city when they were attacked at around 9am.

“Militant outfit Hafiz Gull Bahadur group claimed responsibility for the attack,” a police official said.

When contacted, Kohat district police officer Dr Zahid told Dawn that both the CTD personnel had left their Barh village for the city when they came under attack.

He said a case had been registered.

Meanwhile, two persons, including a policeman, were killed when unidentified assailants opened fire on them in Tarkhoo area of Lowi Mamond tehsil of Bajaur district on Monday evening.

Police officials said constable Shahid Khan and a civilian, Amanullah, were on way home in Tarkhoo area when they were targeted just before Iftar.

Shahid died on the spot, while Amanullah sustained critical injuries, Israr Khan, public relations officer of the district police, said while quoting officials of Lowi Mamond police station.

He said the wounded man was rushed to the Larkholozo Hospital, wherefrom he was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital, Khar, owing to his critical condition.

However, he succumbed to his injuries in the hospital’s emergency ward.

No one claimed responsibility for the incident.
