KHYBER: A policeman was martyred while the dead body of another was recovered in Jamrud on Friday.
Officials at the Khyber DPO office in Shahkas said that unidentified gunmen targeted a police constable Kamran Khan near his home in Jalaldin Kalay, in the limits of Jamrud police station while he was on his way to the police station.
They said the deceased received multiple bullet wounds and died on the spot. The assailants, who were riding a motorcycle, managed to flee after the gruesome incident, officials said.
They said a case has been registered against unidentified assailants and investigations were underway to trace or locate the culprits. No individual or any organisation took responsibility for the targeted killing of the policeman.
The funeral prayers of the deceased police official were later offered at the Shahkas Police Centre in Jamrud, which was attended by police officials including CCPO Peshawar, DPO Khyber and officials of the district administration along with a number of local tribal elders and family members.
In another incident, the dead body of a policeman, hailing from Peshawar, was found near Sakhi Pul in Ghundi area of Jamrud early on Friday morning. Police in Jamrud said that the deceased was identified as Bahadur Shah who had multiple bullet marks on his body.
His dead body was later shifted to Peshawar after initial investigations by the Khyber police. Reasons behind the killing of Bahadur Shah could not be immediately ascertained.
