KOHAT: The Kohat University of Science and Technology (KUST) gave away awards to the faculty members in recognition of their research publications here on Monday.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Mohammad Naseeruddin presented awards to the distinguished faculty members during a ceremony held at his office.

Speaking at the event, Dr Naseerudin highlighted the significance of research in academia, stating: “High-quality innovation is the hallmark of any academic institution, and KUST is making remarkable strides in this domain.”

OPEN COURT: People of Kharmato, a remote region of Kohat, on Monday demanded an end to prolonged electric and gas loadshedding.

They made the demand during an open kutchery, which was also attended by former federal minister an MNA Shehryar Afridi, MPA Daud Khan, deputy commissioner Abdul Akram, officials of the district administration and line departments.

The people also demanded upgradation of schools and appointment of teachers there, provision of water and pavement of streets. They also demanded construction of an underpass at the Dhoda Chowk.

On the occasion, the lawmakers promised resolving the issues facing the people of Kharmato at the earliest.

SPORTS DAY: The administration organised a sports day at the Kohat prison in collaboration with the district sports department here the other day.

Kohat division commissioner Motasim Billah, deputy commissioner Abdul Akram Chitrali, jail superintendent Abdul Bari, and district sports officer Zeeshan Khan were also present on the occasion.

A statement issued here said officials played volleyball, musical chairs and tug-of-war with the prisoners.

The commissioner said that no society could prosper without peace, which guaranteed development. He asked the prisoners to shun all bad habits and illegal activities after their release.

RAT CULLING CAMPAIGN: The civic authorities have decided to launch a rat culling campaign on the complaints of traders about flocks of ‘cat-size’ rats and mice flooding their warehouses and damaging food items.

During a meeting last week, traders’ representatives had expressed grave concern over rat infestation of their outlets and demanded of the district administration to launch a rat-culling campaign.

The tehsil municipal administration has decided to set up big traps and placed baits in the godowns and shops.
