PESHAWAR: The city police arrested 134 drug dealers during a crackdown in the provincial capital over the last 48 hours.

On January 30, Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, while chairing the first meeting of the Provincial Task Force on Anti-Narcotics, had directed the police to launch a massive crackdown on drug dealers across the province.

A statement issued by the city police said that 92 persons were arrested and 84 cases were registered on Monday. It added that 38 cases were registered and 42 accused were arrested on Sunday.

The statement said the arrested persons were connected to an inter-provincial network of drug smugglers, adding that they were involved in supplying drugs to drug dealers in the provincial capital and other districts.

The statement said that the police recovered 85 kilogrammes of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as ice, 76kg hashish, 3kg heroin and several bottles of liquor.

It added that the city police were holding awareness sessions in educational institutions and sensitising students to the drawbacks of using drugs. “All the sub-divisional police officials have been directed to continue the crackdown on drug dealers.”
