KARACHI: Eschelle Asif and Laraib Shamsi delivered solid performances on Saturday as the Ghazi & Magsi National Juniors and Seniors Tennis Championship kicked off here at the Modern Club.

Eschelle blanked Hibah Rizwan 6-0, 6-0 in the girls’ U-18 singles first round, while juniors U-18 singles opener saw Laraib outclass Gibran Shah 6-1, 6-4.

Other categories also featured competitive matches as players vied for top honours.

Juniors U-18 Singles (1st round): Laraib Shamsi bt Gibran Shah 6-1, 6-4; Ahsan Ahmed bt Yahya Bin Zain 6-3, 6-0; Taimoir Ansari w/o Mustafa Durab.

Men’s singles qualifying (1st round): Hanzala Amir bt Muhammad Rafique Ahmed 8-1; Moula Madad bt Umer Farooqui 8-1; Salman Tahir bt Farman Karim 8-1; Rahim Al Amin bt Hamble Naeem 8-4.

Men’s singles (1st round): Salman Tahir bt Emaduddin Ahmed 6-4, 6-3; Kashan Tariq bt Umer Rajper 8-0; Laraib Shamsi bt Malik Hasnain 8-3; Haris Tariq bt Muhammad Asif 8-2; Ibrahim Iltifat bt Inshal Hussain Jaferee 8-0; Muhammad Salar bt Hanzala 8-3.

Girls U-18 singles (1st round): Eschelle Asif bt Hibah Rizwan 6-0, 6-0.

Boys U-10 singles (1st round): Hamza Khan bt M. Ayyan Essa Jee 2-4, 5-3, 4-1; Zaydan Rizwan bt Ibrahim Zaman 4-0, 4-1.

Girls U-12 singles (1st round): Shanaya Shaikh bt Hanna Mudassir 4-0, 4-1; Zohha Imad bt Areeba 4-2, 5-3.
