FAISALABAD, April 18: A religious scholar and his driver were killed by two gunmen on the Jail Road here on Tuesday. According to police, Shia scholar Fazal Alvi was on way to attend a religious congregation when two masked motorcyclists intercepted his car and sprayed it with bullets. The gunmen later set the car on fire.

Police teams and fire tenders rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire.

Senior police officials also visited the site and ordered police personnel to comb the area but the attackers could not be found.

Eyewitnesses said the car occupants had died before the vehicle was torched.

Those close to Fazal Alvi said he had been receiving threats from unknown people for many years.
