BAHAWALNAGAR: A man was arrested on charge of raping his minor stepdaughter in the Minchinabad here on Saturday.

The FIR registered with the Minchinabad police stated the man, a resident of Tariq Colony, subjected his 13-year-old stepdaughter to rape on Dec 26 and threatened her of dire consequences if she opened her mouth about the crime.

The girl, during the investigation, said that her stepfather had been continuously abusing her. According to police sources, the victim’s mother had married the suspect about a year ago. A medical report, a copy available with Dawn, confirmed repeated rape with the victim.

The police said the victim’s forensic lab report was being awaited and further action would be taken in light of the report.

LIFE TERM: A local court has awarded life term to four people, three of them brothers, for killing a man to avenge their father’s murder.

Muhammad Hashim, Hamid Raza and Muhammad Afzaal (brothers) and their accomplice, Mubashir, a resident of Dahranwala, were found guilty of killing Muhammad Aslam, a suspect nominated in the murder case of their father.

According to the FIR registered with Dahranwala police, four persons had shot Aslam dead on the afternoon of June 6 when he was on his way home on a bicycle.

The FIR stated their father, Abdulrub Arshad, was murdered in 2021 and Aslam was named as an accused in the case.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Ghulam Shabbir Hussain Gill of the Model Criminal Court Bahawalnagar announced the judgment.

The judge also ordered the convicts to pay Rs1m each in compensation to the heirs of the victim.

ESCAPE: Two robbers escaped with cash while injuring two traders for raising alarms to alert other traders in Haroonabad.

The FIR registered with City Haroonabad police on Saturday stated that two oil traders, named Shafiq and Imran, were present at their shop at Qainchi Mor, Bahawalnagar Road, at about 9pm when two armed motorcyclists entered the shop and held them hostage at gunpoint. It said that after looting hundreds of thousands of rupees from them, the duo opened fire on them when the victims raised an alarm to alert the traders of the adjacent shops.

The robbers then managed their escape with the cash and left the traders critically injured. Both were rushed to the THQ Hospital Haroonabad where they were being treated.
