KARACHI: Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah on Wednesday announced that the provincial government was planning to introduce A-level classes in select public colleges across the province.

He made this announcement while speaking at a ceremony held to distribute offer letters to 833 new lecturers, who passed the Sindh Public Service Commission’s (SPSC) exams.

Speaking as the chief guest, the minister emphasised the significance of college education in students’ lives and said that the A-level classes would increase opportunities for all students, especially the underprivileged, to progress.

Talking about all 374 government colleges in Sindh, the minister emphasised the importance of providing education to students from underprivileged areas and said: “Teaching should be seen as a responsibility rather than just a job.”

On this occasion, College Education Secretary Asif Ikram disclosed that 1,659 vacant positions had been sent to the SPSC, which recommended 1,357 eligible candidates and 833 of them were issued offer letters after completing their verification process.

Offer letters were distributed in seven subjects — 282 for computer science, 219 for Sindhi, 119 for botany, 106 for mathematics, 80 for statistics, 14 for chemistry and 13 for psychology.
