SAHIWAL: On a tip-off, the Arifwala Sadar police recovered hashish and opium worth Rs10 million near village 167/EB on Sunday.

The police arrested alleged drug trafficker Ikram Machee, while two of his accomplices fled. Sadar SHO Abid Mohar said that the police recovered 42 kg of hashish and 18 kg of opium.

PROBE: An incident of alleged severe torture by Sub-Inspector Javed Dogar at Tarakhani police has come to light.

The report states that Tarakhani police officials picked up Jamil, an agricultural labourer and resident of 92/EB, on suspicion of being involved in a dacoity and severely tortured him for two days.

The labourer’s family claimed that the inspector was using his authority illegally and torturing Jamil, who was not nominated in any criminal case.

Following these allegations, Shahida Noureen, SP investigation, has been directed to inquire into the torture incident.
