KOHAT: A jirga on Wednesday decided to ban protests on the Thal-Kohat Road.

The decision was taken during a joint meeting of the local jirga and Kohat peace committee held in Hangu to take stock of the volatile situation in Kurram district.

The jirga decided that the police would take strict action against the violators of the ban, according to an official statement issued here.

The meeting was convened on the directives of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister. The deputy commissioners and district police officers of Hangu and Orakzai districts were also in attendance.

Meanwhile, Kohat division commissioner Syed Motasim Billah Shah, while chairing a meeting here on Wednesday, also took certain decisions with the aim to restore peace and order in the entire Kohat division, which also includes Karak, Hangu, Orakzai and Kurram districts.

The commissioner made it clear that stringent measures would be taken to ensure a peaceful environment across the division.
