CHARSADDA: Armed men stormed into the house of Awami National Party local leader and social activist Mohammad Iqbal in Hajyano Kallay area here on Tuesday night and shot him dead.

The incident took place in the jurisdiction of Sardheri police station.

The assailants managed to escape after the incident.

Wife of the deceased, who was ANP’s former president of Ghunda Karkana union council, filed a report with the Sardheri police, stating that they were sleeping inside a room of their house when someone knocked at the door to their room.

She said when her husband opened the door two masked men armed with guns started firing at him.

The complainant said that her husband died on the spot.

The woman nominated accused Gul Mohammad, Ahmed Khan, Rahimdad and Imran, residents of Bagh Korona, Rizwan, a resident of Hajyano Kallay, and two other unknown accused for the murder. She said that her husband had a dispute with the accused over a water channel.

The police registered a report and started investigation.

The ANP leader was laid to rest in his ancestral graveyard in Ghunda Karkana area later in the day.

A large number of ANP workers, relatives and local people participated in the funeral prayers.

They demanded the immediate arrest of the accused and award of exemplary punishment to them.
