ISLAMABAD: Various joint and special investigation teams are being constituted to probe cases registered against the PTI leadership, including party founder Imran Khan, his wife, Bushra Bibi, and KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, Dawn has learnt from police sources.

The capital police registered several cases over the PTI’s recent ‘final call’ protest under various sections of the Anti-Terrorism Act, Pakistan Penal Code and Peaceful Assembly and Public Order Act, 2024.

From Nov 22 to Dec 2, a total of 20 cases have been registered in City, Sadar, Industrial Area, Saddar, and Rural police zones. Of these cases, 17 were registered under charges ranging from terrorism to murder, attempted murder, dacoity and abduction.

Zonal police superintendents are being nominated as chairman of the joint investigation teams (JITs), comprising SDPOs, SHOs and an investigation officer as well as representatives of intelligence agencies, officials added.

Of the 17 cases, PTI founder Imran Khan was nominated in seven cases, Bushra Bibi in nine cases, KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur in 10 cases, Amir Mughal in eight cases, Omar Ayub in six cases, and Salman Akram Raja, Shibli Faraz and Shoaib Shaheen in two cases each, while Sheikh Waqas Akram, Arif Alvi, Zartaj Gul, Sher Afzal Marwat, Asad Qaiser, Zulfi Bukhari, Hammad Azhar, Murad Saeed, and Rauf Hassan in one case each.

Besides, over 54,000 unidentified persons were also booked in these cases.
