KARACHI: Major General Muhammad Shamraiz on Friday assumed the charge of the director general of Pakistan Rangers, Sindh.

A ceremony was held at the Rangers headquarters in Karachi in which the outgoing Rangers chief, Major General Azhar Waqas, handed over the command to Maj Gen Shamraiz.

A spokesperson for the paramilitary force said that the ceremony was attended by a number of Rangers and police officers.

Later in the day, Inspector General of Police Ghulam Nabi Memon gave a reception at the Central Police Office to bid farewell to Maj Gen Waqas, who has been promoted to the rank of lieutenant general, and welcome Maj Gen Shamraiz.

Speaking on the occasion, the IGP said that the paramilitary force had always played an active role in restoring peace in Karachi and action against bandits in riverine area.
