CHARSADDA: The paramedical association, Shabqadar, on Monday threatened to boycott the upcoming anti-polio campaign if the government didn’t initiate the promotion process of paramedics.

The decision was made during a meeting chaired by the association’s president Syed Rasool. The association’s district and tehsil officials were in attendance.

On the occasion, Mr Rasul said that the provincial health minister had promised solution to their problems during a meeting in June, but to no avail.

He said any amendment in their service rules won’t be acceptable to them. He alleged that the government was blocking the promotion process of paramedics.

Meanwhile, the residents have demanded measures to eliminate big rats, who roam the streets in Charsadda Tehsil Bazaar and surrounding areas.

Talking to mediapersons here on Monday, they said that big rodents had bitten many people and damaged valuables in shops and houses.

They demanded of the district health officer and the tehsil municipal administration to rid the residents of the big rats.

The residents said vaccines for the people bitten by rates were not available in hospitals.

The people said they were tired of keeping rodenticides at homes and asked the district administration to take proper measures to control further growth in rats’ population.

They said children were afraid while returning homes from seminaries and schools due to prevalence of big rats in the streets.
