LAKKI MARWAT: The police repulsed a militant attack on a checkpost near Lora Bridge in Fatehkhel area of Bannu district on Thursday night. It was the second attack on the police installations in the district during the last five days.

An official said on Friday militants targeted the police post building in the limits of Mandan police station with automatic weapons and indigenously made bombs in a bid to inflict huge losses on the cops deployed there.

Though the attack damaged the building the assailants could not take over it due to a quick and effective response by the policemen, he said.

The official said the assailants were equipped with light and heavy weapons and they attacked the police post from different directions.

After the attack, a large police contingent reached the area and launched a search for the attackers. But there were no reports about any immediate arrests.

On Monday, five militants were killed and four policemen embraced martyrdom when the former made a bid to breach the police lines building in Bannu.
