SHANGLA: Three minor girls, including two sisters, drowned in the River Indus in the Jatkol area of Chakesar tehsil here on Monday.
Rasool Khan Sharif, a spokesperson for Rescue 1122, said the girls were bathing in the river to beat the heat when they drowned. He said Rescue 1122 divers had launched a search operation for the bodies.
The spokesperson identified the deceased as sisters Sanya, 9, and Javeria, 7, and Maria, 11. He said they were residents of Jatkol village.
A similar incident had occurred at the same spot in the past.
Following a series of recent drowning incidents, the district administration had already imposed a ban under Section 144 on bathing in and visiting the river.
