GUJRAT: The University of Gujrat’s (UoG) school of law hosted a seminar on ‘Women’s property rights & harassment of women at workplace’ here at Hafiz Hayat Campus on Wednesday.

Organised in collaboration with the Law Moot Society and Student Services Centre, the seminar featured Punjab Women Ombudsperson, Nabila Hakim Ali Khan, as the chief guest, with Registrar Muhammad Naeem Butt presiding over the session.

Consultant Shahid Raza from the Women Ombudsperson Office Gujranwala Division, Director of Student Affairs Dr Tahir Iqbal Awan, Head of Department Dr Nasir Majeed, Coordinator Mushfiq Haroon Khwaja and Chief Librarian Imran Siddiqui were among the guests of honour.

Before the seminar, Ms Nabila Hakim Ali Khan lauded Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr Muhammad Mushahid Anwar for his efforts in promoting the cause of higher education.

Dr Mushahid Anwar emphasised that protecting women’s rights and treating them with respect is a core Islamic value.

Ms Nabila Hakim Ali Khan stressed the importance of empowering women intellectually, economically and socially, highlighting that the Punjab government is actively enacting laws to support this cause. She added that raising awareness of women’s rights would enhance Pakistan’s global image.

Shahid Raza provided a detailed overview of laws protecting women’s rights, stressing that Islam prohibits discrimination. Registrar Muhammad Naeem Butt noted that Islam advocates for a balanced and moderate society. Dr Tahir Iqbal Awan underscored the significance of promoting women’s rights, asserting that empowerment can foster a balanced and civilised society.

With over 62 per cent of UoG’s students being female and actively pursuing higher education, they are poised to play a leading role in advocating for women’s rights.

Earlier, an awareness walk on women’s rights organised by the Law Moot Society saw enthusiastic participation from both students and faculty.
