SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: The tribesmen staged a demonstration in Wana Bazaar of Lower South Waziristan district here on Friday, demanding of the authorities to resume trade activities at the Angoor Adda border crossing.

The gathering was organised by political parties, including Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party, Jamaat-i-Islami, Pakistan People’s Party, Pashtun Tahuffuz Movement and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf.

Tribal elders, political leaders and residents participated in the gathering. They urged the federal government and the security officials to address their legitimate demands.

The speakers, including Imran Mukhlis, Asadullah, Haroon, Khayal Mohammad and Maulana Tasbihullah Wazir, highlighted the sacrifices made by the Wazir tribe of Lower South Waziristan for the country’s sake, and demanded an end to the ‘oppression’ of tribal people.

They said that continuing suspension of trade activities at the Angoor Adda border crossing was tantamount to economic murder of local people.

The political leaders also asked the authorities to meet the demands of the people, who had been continuing a sit-in at the Angoor Adda border for one year.
