BAHAWALNAGAR: Maroot police on Monday booked as many as 43 people, 14 of them nominated, for allegedly opening fire at the vehicle of a PML-N MPA and hurling threats at him and his supporters.

The FIR registered with Maroot police said that MPA Kashif Mahmood Pansota, along with some others, was returning home after offering condolence over the death of the father of Tariq Jigra on Sunday night. It said when the MPA and his fellows in four vehicles reached 317/HR village, as many 43 people carrying batons and weapons intercepted them, threatened them with dire consequences and opened fire on them with an intent to kill Mr Pansota. Some of the bullets fired by the suspects also hit the MPA’s vehicle, it added.

The FIR, however, did not mention the motive behind the alleged attack on the MPA.

A senior police official, requesting anonymity, told Dawn that almost all suspects belonged to the PTI.

On the MPA’s complaint, Maroot police have registered a case against the suspects under sections 148, 149, 324, 341, 379, and 427 of PPC.
