LAKKI MARWAT: A man killed an elderly woman in front of his son in Gandi Khankhel area of Lakki Marwat district on Saturday.

Police said the accused opened fire on Salim Khan, 26, but the bullets hit his mother, Meera Bibi, 60, killing her on the spot.

They said the attacker, who had a petty dispute with the deceased’s family, made good his escape.

Salim, who remained unhurt in the attack, told the police that Mamodin armed with an assault rifle first yelled at him near his house and then opened fire, but he miraculously escaped.

However, he said his mother, who came outside the house after hearing the loud arguments between them, received bullets and died instantly.

The police said the body was handed over to the family after conducting a postmortem examination at the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Serai Naurang.

Shaheed Asmatullah Khan Khattak police station registered a case against the alleged killer under relevant clauses of Pakistan Penal Code and began further investigation.

Separately, eight people, including women and children, were injured when the roof of a house collapsed in Naserkhel area of Serai Naurang town.

A Rescue 1122 official said that the injured, including Ansa Bibi, 7, Aasia Bibi, 27, Hamza, 1, Zaibunnisa Bibi, 35, Ikhtiar Bibi, 45, Muzammil, 8, Akhtar Bibi, 50, and Ajjo Bibi, 9, had been shifted to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital.
