KARACHI: Police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested a man, who along with his two other accomplices, allegedly gang raped and murdered a minor girl.

The body of a 12-year-old homeless girl, stuffed in a gunny bag, was found at a garbage dump in the Lucky Star area. The autopsy revealed that she was raped and strangled.

DIG-South Syed Asad Raza described the held man as the prime suspect and said that he was a watchman at the ‘Bara Market’ near Cantonment Railway Station.

However, his two accomplices, who worked at a bus terminal in the same area, were still at large and efforts were being made to arrest them, the official said.

He said that the victim girl lived underneath Lilly Bridge along with her mother. She was playing when the suspects abducted her, brought her to their office, where they subjected her to gang rape. They later strangled her.

The DIG said that he was arrested with the help of CCTV footage as investigators identified the motorbike and the suspects.

“The suspects involved in the girl’s rape and murder will be taken to task,” he added.
