KOHAT: District administration foiled an attempt to smuggle atruckloadof illegally cut logs by the timber mafia at Ghiljo-Shahoo-road, Saifal Darra in Upper Orakzai area on Friday.

The officials of the forest department and the district administration impounded the truck full of timber worth million of rupees and arrested three persons.

The deputy commissioner said that they had adopted zero tolerance against the denuding of forests and strict action would be taken against the timber smugglers.

He said that besides illegal forest cutting, the smugglers were also harming the wildlife by depriving them of their natural habitat.

He said that regular raids were being conducted against the timber mafia which had set up secret hideouts inside the thick jungles.
