LAHORE: The Punjab University on Friday allowed an LLB 5th-year Baloch student to attend classes and appear in the examination.

The university had rusticated Sadia Baloch on charge of making objectionable remarks against the public institutions during a protest on the New Campus on June 10.

According to an official notification, the chief security officer had recommended that Sadia be suspended for 15 days but her admission was already sent by the Law College before receipt of the suspension letter.

Therefore, there would be no effect on her examination this year; however, the disciplinary committee will call her and make a decision later on. Until then, she is allowed to appear in the exam or attend classes in the department.

On the recommendation of the chief security officer, the PU VC has given permission to attend classes and appear in the examination and Sadia will be kept under observation and the final result/ degree will be issued after the decision of the disciplinary committee.

Ms Baloch told Dawn that she would appear before the disciplinary committee after the examination and present her statement. She said she was attending the protest rally as her fellow students were picked up by the law enforcement agencies. She said the rally was demanding the release of their fellow students.

PU spokesperson said the student was allowed to appear in the examination and her admission was not cancelled. He said the disciplinary committee would later convene a meeting and decide the matter while the student would be issued a degree only after clearing the allegations leveled against her.

Meanwhile, the Punjab University Department of Examinations has uploaded roll number slips for the upcoming LLB exams for the three-year and five-year programmes, scheduled to commence on Aug 22, 2024.

Regular students from affiliated colleges have received their slips via email, while campus-based students can download them from the university’s website.
