HARIPUR: A minor girl was killed and her three cousins were injured when the roof of a room collapsed in a remote village, police and rescue sources said here on Monday.

The roof collapsed due to its dilapidated condition that was further weakened during the recent rain spell.

The police quoted family sources as saying that four girls, who all were cousins, were playing in a room of the mud house in Ghumanwan village when at around 12 noon, the roof of the room caved in burying all the girls under the debris.

The residents rushed there and launched a rescue operation. They recovered four girls and shifted them to the trauma centre, where one of the girls, later identified as Noor Fatima, 9, daughter of Mohammad Aksar, was pronounced as brought dead.

The injured were sisters and the cousins of the deceased girl. They were identified as Hajira Bibi, 13, Mariyam Bibi, 15, and Nadia Bibi, 20, daughters of Mohammad Aslam.

The injured were later discharged from the hospital after first aid as they suffered minor injuries, police and hospital sources said.
