SUKKUR: A dacoit came under the wheels of a speeding trailer when three criminals were trying to flee on a motorcycle after snatching it from a citizen at Malheer Stop on the Indus Highway while two of his surviving companions managed to escape before police reached the crime scene.

Police officials said that they rushed to the scene when they received report about the incident and shifted the badly maimed dead body to the nearest hospital. The body was later identified as that of Hayat Sabzoi, resident of Kher Shah village in Kandhkot district, they said.

Sources in the area said that police raided the deceased dacoit’s hideout and recovered four stolen motorcycles. Police were at present gathering his criminal record, they said.

Dacoit gunned down

Shikarpur police claimed to have gunned down a dacoit and wounded three of his associates in an encounter in the jurisdiction of Dakhan police station on Saturday.

Police officials said that the area’s SHO along with his patrolling team came upon four suspected dacoits, who were hiding along a road to rob or abduct wayfarers, and gunned down one criminal and wounded three others in the ensuing encounter.

SSP Shahzeb Chachar said that the wounded dacoits managed to escape during the shootout, whereas police shifted the dead body to hospital for post mortem.

He said the deceased gangster was later identified as Fareed Kharos, who was wanted by police in 14 cases of heinous crimes, including highway robberies, encounters with police and abduction. He was also involved in killing and injuring several police officials, he said.

He said that police had gathered his criminal record from different police stations and cordoned off the area to search for the fugitive dacoits. Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar had appreciated Shikarpur police for their daring action against the criminals, said the officials.
