GUJAR KHAN: Eight officials from Gujar Khan and Civil Lines police stations have been suspended over the death of a robbery suspect in custody on Wednesday.

The SHO of Civil Lines has been issued a charge sheet and sent to police lines.

SSP operations Rawalpindi Hafiz Kamran Asghar also directed an inquiry against the officials, including SHO Civil Lines Inspector Sikandar Nawaz Joiya and in-charge of Qazian post ASI Saqib Sheraz.

On the other hand, the police entered into a reconciliation with the heirs of the deceased, Mohammad Zeeshan, a resident of Jhanda Chichi. The body of the deceased was later handed over to the heirs at THQ hospital Gujar Khan without an autopsy.

Meanwhile, judicial magistrate Gujar Khan Syed Faizan-i-Rasool ordered legal proceedings into the incident.

According to police sources, Zeeshan was picked by the Civil Lines police on Tuesday and later handed over to the Gujar Khan police station’s Qazian post for interrogation in a robbery case.

The sources said the condition of the suspect deteriorated early on Wednesday and he was taken to a local doctor who advised the police to shift him to any hospital as his oxygen level was very low. The police on Wednesday noon brought the suspect to the THQ Hospital Gujar Khan, where he was pronounced dead.
