DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Dera divisional commissioner Zafarul Islam on Tuesday called for sectarian harmony during Muharram.

He made the appeal while chairing a meeting held here to review security arrangements for the holy month.

Regional police officer Nasir Mehmood Satti, Dera deputy commissioner Mansoor Arshad, members of peace committee, army officials and clerics were in attendance.

Mr Islam said Muharram taught the lesson of peace, brotherhood and unity.

He directed the effective implementation of the security plan for Muharram.

He asked the Peshawar Electric Supply Company to avoid unannounced loadshedding during the month.

He said the departments concerned should play their due role in ensuring peace in Muharram.

RPO Satti told the meeting that a comprehensive security plan had been prepared for the month. He urged citizens to play their role in maintaining peace.

CONSTABLE KILLED: A police constable was killed allegedly by his brother after an altercation in Mohallah Hassankhel in Paniyala area, a police official said on Tuesday.

He said Iqbal, 43, reported to the Nawab Shaheed police station that his brothers, Mahmoodul Hasan, 35, and Naeem Ahmad had an altercation a day earlier, following which Naeem took out a pistol and shot Mehmood dead.

The police registered a case against the accused and started further investigation.
