TOBA TEK SINGH: A boy and his relative girl were murdered for honor in Faisalabad’s Chak 364-GB.

Investigation SP Abdul Wahab told a press conference on Tuesday that a kidnapping case of Shakil Abbas, 21, of Nankana Sahib (who had been staying at his maternal uncle Ghulam Shabbir’s house for college studies for the last six months) was registered on Sunday against unidentified people when he went missing.

He said that on Tuesday, Shakil’s body was recovered from an under-construction outhouse.

The police said he had been murdered by Imran Kharal, a relative.

Kharal told police that Shakil had an affair with his cousin Misbah Bibi, so he kidnapped and tortured Shakil to death on Sunday. He had already killed Misbah on June 6 and buried her in a pit of a tubewell.

The police are conducting raids to arrest his accomplices, Umer Hayat Kharal and his son Mudassar Hayat Kharal.

Both bodies have been shifted to Jaranwala THQ hospital for autopsy.

WALK: On the International Day for the Elimination of Child Labour, the Department of Labour Welfare organised an awareness walk in Faisalabad on Wednesday.

People from different walks of life participated, carrying banners and placards with inscriptions regarding awareness for the elimination of child labour.

Labour Welfare Director Dr Ghulam Shabbir Kalyar said that in the crackdown on child labour violations, 468 industrial and commercial establishments had been inspected, and 24 cases were recently registered for hiring children as labourers.

REINSTATED: The provincial secretary of primary and secondary healthcare reinstated Jhang District Drug Controller Attiya Nawaz and directed her to assume charge of the same post at Jhang.

She was among 11 drug controllers and inspectors of six districts of the province who were suspended by the secretary on Sept 25, 2023, over the Avastin injection issue.

UAF: University of Agriculture Faisalabad VC Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan said on Wednesday that the best manpower and tangible research work will solve the problems of the agriculture sector and farming community.

He expressed these views while presiding over the Academic Council meeting. He said that by bringing modern research and technology to the farmers’ doorstep, profitable agriculture and an increase in per-acre yield can be ensured.

He said all possible measures were being taken to meet the food needs of the growing population and ensure food security. He emphasised that manpower with command over modern scientific knowledge is essential to develop the industry on modern lines.
