LARKANA: The Larkana chapter of the Sindhi Adabi Sangat organised a literary sitting at Arts Council of Pakistan the other day in recognition of poet and teacher, Dayo Majeed.

Well-known literary figure Ahmed Ali Sabir Chandio, who presided over the programme, said that Dayo was a fragrant flower in the garden of Sindhi poetry. His poetry represented masses’ voice and it had all the merits of standard poetry, he said.

Aziz Qasmani said that poets and writers always determined right course for their nations to follow and be successful. Singers had popularised Dayo’s message of peace and love throughout Sindh, he said.

Dayo said: “I try to write with utmost honesty and dedication. I have natural inclination to composing poetry, listening to music and reading books but I’ve learnt more by attending meetings of Sindhi Adabi Sangat”.

Samee Sajid Junejo said that besides being a good poet Dayo was an exemplary human being. He was always seen helping the poor and the needy out of his own pocket, he said.

Ustad Gul Dayo said that more than 50 different singers had sung Dayo’s poetry.

Towards the end of the programme, Faqir Manzoor Ali Mahesar Hussaini presented a shield of appreciation to Dayo Majeed and Ustad Gul Dayo.

Afterwards, a mushaira and a musical show were held in which many poets and singers showcased their talent. Aziz Nawaz Hullio, Ahmed Adesi, Siddique Soomro, Essa Chandio, Zahid Ali Jonejo, Amjad Hisbani, Azhar Majeed, Arshaad Aakash, and others recited their poetry in the mushaira and singers Nawaz Mirani, Farman Ali Chandio, Raja Sammu and others entertained the audience with their melodious voices.
