ISLAMABAD: Renowned Child Specialist who was abducted from Rawalpindi’s secured area of Westridge has been released, his family sources told Dawn.

Professor Dr Tahir Chaudhry, head of Pediatrics Department of Railway Hospital, was picked up when he was going home from the hospital on May 29.

His close friends told Dawn that the doctor was arranging medicine for the children of war torn Gaza.

Abdullah Tahir, son of Dr Chaudhry, lodged a complaint with the Westridge police that his father Dr Mohammad Tahir Chaudhry was intercepted by an unidentified vehicle near Bakery Chowk.

Some people riding the black vehicle in black uniform forcibly dragged his father from his car and put him into their double-cabin and sped off, the FIR, registered with Westridge police, said.

It said a fruit vendor watching the scene across the road informed him about the incident after which he approached the police for the registration of a kidnapping case.

Doctors staged protest over disappearance of renowned child specialist.

Family sources of Dr Chaudhry said that he returned safely late night on May 31. The sources said that the doctor did not accuse any individual or institution over his abduction.
