SHANGLA: The police on Friday arrested the parents and a brother of a girl along with his wife for allegedly murdering her at home.

The police made the arrests after the medical report revealed that the girl was allegedly murdered at home.

Alpuri police station SHO Bakht Zahir Khan told Dawn that Fazal Hakeem, a resident of Zara Dehrai area, had reported that his daughter strangulated herself with a rope.

He said after recording the statement of the girl’s father, they initiated a probe into the incident and shifted the body to the District Headquarters Hospital, Alpuri.

SHO Zahir said the medical report revealed the girl had not committed suicide, but she was allegedly strangulated with a rope, as doctors mentioned they found multiple signs on her body.

He said the police arrested the girl’s father, mother, brother and his wife and lodged an FIR against them under section 302 and began further interrogation into the case.

In another incident, the Chakesar police station SHO Mohammad Afzal Khan told Dawn a young girl reportedly strangulated herself with a piece of cloth in Mangrai area on Friday. However, he said the police initiated an inquiry into the case over suspicion.

He said a police team went to the home of the girl, identified as Rekham Bibi, where her mother told them she had gone to fields for harvesting crops, leaving her daughter with other children at home. She added after few hours his son, 9, came to the fields and informed her that Rekham Bibi had strangulated her.

SHO Afzal said the woman claimed her daughter was unwell for long.
