LAHORE: The Punjab government has established a new department of ‘Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery’ at the Lahore General Hospital (LGH) for the treatment and operation of oral and facial cancers and structural defects, including fractures of the mouth, face and jaws, as a result of accidents.

The head of this new department will be Prof Armaghan Israr Mirza of BBS-20.

It is mentionable that with the opening of this new department, large and modern treatment facilities will be available to the patients suffering from various mouth, facial and jaw diseases coming to the LGH.

Speaking in this regard, Principal Post Graduate Medical Institute & Amiruddin Medical College Prof Al-Fareed Zafar said the LGH was important in the whole country for the treatment of citizens injured in traffic accidents and now with the establishment of the oral and maxillofacial department, it would facilitate operation of broken jaws.

He highlighted that now all types of medical facilities would be available to the patients in the same hospital due to which the patients would not have to go to different hospitals for treatment.

Prof Al-Fareed said that the health department, especially Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, promised to develop the health sector and provide maximum quality facilities to the patients and with the establishment of oral and maxillofacial treatment facility, another milestone at the LGH had been completed.

Keeping in view the professional skills and medical education services of Prof Armaghan Israr Mirza, he expressed hoped he would provide education and training to the students of PGMI/AMC regarding the oral and maxillofacial surgery, the principal said and added that he would leave no stone unturned and thus medical students would be provided with a great educational facility.

LGH Medical Superintendent Dr Faryad Hussain was also present on this occasion.

Prof Al-Fareed and MS Dr Faryad Hussain met the newly appointed Prof Armaghan Asrar Mirza and congratulated him on assuming the new responsibilities.

Prof Armaghan Israr Mirza assured that he would perform the responsibilities of this important department efficiently by using all his abilities and energies.
