ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) led federal government here on Tuesday appointed Allama Dr Raghib Hussain Naeemi as the Chairman of the Council of Islamic Ideological (CII).

The Ministry of Law and Justice has issued the notification for the appointment of Allama Naeemi as the chairman of the CII, and he becomes the 17th chairman of the Council as the former head of CII Dr Qibla Ayaz, completed his second term last month.

Allama Dr Raghab Hussain Naeemi is also the Vice-Chancellor of Jamia Naeemi and Chairman of the Muttahida Ulema Board Punjab, and he was recently awarded Sitara-i-Imtiaz by President Asif Ali Zardari on the Pakistan Day.

His father Mufti Sarfraz Ahmed Naeemi died after a suicide attack in Jamia Naeemia in 2009, after he had issued a decree (Fatwa) against the Taliban and denounced the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan’s (TTP) terrorist actions, their ideologies as well as suicide bombing as un-Islamic.

Jamia Naeemia Lahore is currently an Islamic University in Lahore and was founded by Mufti Muhammad Husain Naeemi, grandfather of Allama Dr Raghib Naeemi. At the same time Allama Naeemi is a supporter of PML-N and his spouse Nabeera Raghib Naeemi, was a PML-N MPA in Punjab Assembly on reserved seat in 2018.
