KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Tuesday directed the authorities to take action against unauthorised ‘Bachat bazaars’ and rickshaw stands in district Korangi.
Last month, a man moved the SHC and submitted that ‘Bachat bazaars’ being organised on amenity plots and illegal rickshaw stands were also severely affecting the flow of traffic in Korangi district.
When the matter came up for hearing before a two-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi on Tuesday, the SSP-traffic filed a report and stated that the traffic police took action and imposed fines on 8,746 rickshaw drivers last year.
The report also mentioned that ‘Bachat bazaars’ were established in four areas of the district with the permission of competent authorities.
A provincial law officer sought time to file comments on behalf of the deputy commissioner concerned and other respondents.
The bench adjourned the hearing till May 28 and directed the law officer to provide an advance copy to the lawyer for the petitioner before the next date.
“Today, learned counsel for the petitioner has placed on record some photographs to show that unauthorised bachat bazars/rickshaw stand/cart are still not removed, which is causing traffic hazards. It is expected that needful will be done by the concerned before the next date of hearing, whereas, compliance may be furnished along with photographs,” the bench states in its order.
