COLOMBO, March 13: The newly-appointed Pakistan bowling coach, Waqar Younis, has made his intentions clear that he will be eyeing 2007 World Cup with pace bowlers of the team.

“The ultimate goal right now is the 2007 World Cup. Everyone is eyeing the big event and right now the time is ripe to form good combinations.

“Pakistan bowlers for their pace and swing would be having an advantage in the World Cup. The wickets there will support our bowlers.”

“Our bowlers are giving too many extras, which is not good for Pakistan cricket and the team. So we need to work on it keeping in mind the importance of runs in today’s cricket,” the former Test fast bowler observed on Monday.

“If the youngsters’ flaws are checked at early age it would be beneficial for national cricket.

“I would say our bowlers need guidance. They need to be told how to meet the demand of the situation and how to bowl in certain conditions.”

Waqar, who formed one of cricket’s most lethal new ball pairs along with Wasim Akram and took 373 Test wickets and 416 wickets in shorter version of the game, expressed his delight to be associated with Pakistan cricket again.

“I am delighted to be part of the team once again. It feels good to be back in the field after a gap of three years. I have always wanted to return to my country what I have achieved from my career,” he added.—Agencies
