NEW YORK: The UN General Assembly special session on raw materials and development began work again today [April 24] after striking interpreters, who caused stoppage of the debate yesterday, resumed work. … Meanwhile, work continues on a programme of action in ad hoc committee and sources … said general consensus had been reached on 11-point plan for immediate assistance to the nations most seriously affected by the recent economic crisis. …

Diplomats here believed the immediate aid plan had very good chance of being accepted quickly because the drafting committee had agreed in general principle on the contents of the plan. Pakistan had played major part in the initiating of this plan and its drafting. — News agencies

[Meanwhile, as reported by news agencies from Damascus,] Syrian ground-to-air missiles ... downed two Israeli fighter-bombers trying to hit Syrian positions on Mount Hermon, a military spokesman said here.
