MARDAN: In a campaign against gas thieves in Mardan region, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited authorities collected a fine of Rs49.6 million, the utility’s officials said here on Saturday.

They said the fine was imposed on 514 consumers, who had tampered with their meters, while another 229 were found to have got direct gas connections.

They said the operation against gas thieves was being carried out under the supervision of SNGPL regional manager Akif Noor. They said all possible efforts were being made to reduce gas losses.

The officials added work on replacing 60km of old lines was going on, which had not only reduced gas losses, but also improved the pressure.

The officials said a situation room had been set up to ensure quick resolution of consumers’ complaints to ensure smooth gas supply to them in Ramazan.

They said consumers could lodge complaints regarding low pressure and gas theft on the helpline 1199.
