MUZAFFARGARH: An attempt to smuggle Iranian diesel was foiled by the industries district officer in Layyah on Tuesday.

Reports said a tanker carrying 63,000 litres of Iranian diesel was stopped as it travelled from Quetta to Bhakkar district. The oil tanker was seized and handed over to customs authorities, with one suspect, Gulzar, arrested on the spot.

The operation was led by DO Kashif Nisar along with Inspector Imran Thind. Legal action is being taken against oil tanker driver Gulzar.

THREE KILLED: Three youths riding a motorcycle were killed on the spot after being hit by a speeding bus here on Tuesday.

Reports said three youngsters, including two brothers, were hit by a speeding bus, killing them on the spot. The bus driver managed his escape.

PRICE CONTROL: The district administration is proactively ensuring the availability of food items during Ramazan.

Acting upon the directives of Deputy Commissioner Mian Usman Ali, price control magistrates inspected 1,841 shops in a single day, resulting in fines totaling Rs103,000 for illegal profiteering, and hoarding.

Three cases have been registered against shopkeepers, with one shop sealed, and nine shopkeepers arrested.

The deputy commissioner said action will be taken against profiteering and hoarding.
