PESHAWAR: The Counter-Terrorism Department has arrested some suspected militants in connection with what police said a premature explosion, which took place in the provincial capital on Sunday morning, killing two militants and injuring another.

On Monday, CTD officials said on the basis of the information gleaned from the injured militant, the department arrested some suspected militants during raids.

They said that according to initial investigation, the three suspected militants were shifting an improvised explosive device to target a person after he failed to give them the extortion money. However, they said the IED went off prematurely, killing two militants and injuring one.

CTD SP Shaukat Khan said the department had obtained details of FIRs lodged by different persons against the extortionists.

He said the department had arrested suspected militants during the ongoing investigation into the Sunday’s explosion.
