GUJRAT: Police on Sunday claimed to have traced and arrested the suspect involved in the blind murder case of a woman in Shadiwal village of Kunjah police precincts.

The suspect, who turned out to be a neighbour of the deceased, barged into her house with the intention of theft but killed her after she recognised him.

A spokesman for Gujrat police said Nargis had brutally been murdered at her house as her throat was slit with a knife in January the last as the case was lodged against unidentified suspects on the report of a close family member.

He said District Police Officer Asad Muzaffar had constituted a special team under Sadar Cricle DSP Malik Adnan and Station House Officer Kunjah Sub Inspector Muhammad Anwar and tasked them to trace and arrest the suspects involved in the case.

The police team, he said, had launched the investigation into the case and later detained a suspect Muhammad Naeem also belonging to the same vicinity of Shadiwal who later confessed to have killed the woman.

The suspect, he said, had told the police that he had gone to the house with the intention of theft; however the woman recognised him upon which he hit a hammer on her head and then slit her throat with a sharp-edged knife.

The suspect fled the scene soon after the incident; however, police said, it had recovered the cell phone, knife and hammer from the suspect and further investigation was under way.
