Lives at stake

Published February 13, 2024

DUE to the current problem of gas load- shedding, women at homes check the stoves multiple times for gas supplies, leaving it open and unattended. It is a common human error that puts lives in danger. This would not have been the case if the gas supply was continuous.

The gas flowing in the lines and used for cooking can leave the residents suffocated on leakage during winters, when the houses are poorly ventilated due to closed doors and sealed windows, and also poses a fire risk that Karachi has frequently seen on a major scale due to various reasons.

The taxpayers, who pay taxes without getting any relief, have been suffering financially as they have to buy expensive food from outside, which is a serious burden in these inflation-hit times.

The people at least deserve the basic right of safety. This can only be ensured by having the natural gas continuously flowing in the pipelines so that the people may not have to check the stove knobs repeatedly. Besides, people should also take precautions and check their stoves and geysers before leaving their homes, or going to the bed. Keeping homes well-ventilated is also essential.
